HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY CONTEST on Antonio Meucci
To encourage high school students in their study of the Italian culture, the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of NY, Inc. and the Italian Teachers' Association are sponsoring an essay contest.
The Grand Prize winner will be awarded a gift certificate in the amount of One Hundred Dollars ($100) and will be recognized at a special function. All Entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
Essay Topic: This Spring's Italian Heritage and Culture Month celebration is dedicated to Antonio Meucci. In an essay of approximately 500 words explain how Meucci and his telephone invention changed our lives.
Eligibility and Procedures
The winner(s) will be notified by May 13, 2008.

Famous Italian Sites Treasure Hunt Race
An adventure through 7 Garibald related sites in Manhattan participants
recieved a "visa" sticker for their"passport",
and tried to arrive first
at the last site to win a prize.
Race started at the Italian Cultural Institute and ended in Washigton Square Park

200th Anniversary of Garibaldi’s birth July 21, 2007
Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, Staten Island
A special stamp cancellation ceremony conducted by the United States
Postal Service. The Giuseppe Garibaldi postage stamp was designed by
Philatelist Ted Jacobson and produced by the Italian Heritage and
Culture Month Committee in conjunction with the Masonic Stamp Club of
New York . The stamp was available for purchase at the morning’s
cancellation event.
Afternoon lecture, was presented by Dr. Frank Alduino, Professor of History
at Anne Arundel Community College , Maryland.
Followed was a reception and showing of Hero of Two Worlds:
Monuments to Garibaldi Across the World, a special exhibition created
with photographs of the many impressive Garibaldi statues located around the world.
